TCL issues we see most often in Chicago
Some failures are common across all TV brands; others are specific to TCL. Here are the ones our techs handle weekly:
- Backlight LED strip failure. The single most common TCL failure mode. The mini-LED backlight zones on 6-series and QM-series sets are dense, which means more LEDs that can fail. Repairable in-home.
- Won’t turn on / no power. Almost always the power board on TCLs — particular generations of the 5-series and 6-series have a known capacitor failure pattern that we’ve seen repeatedly.
- Roku TV freezing / restart loop. Sometimes the main board, sometimes a corrupt firmware state. We try a factory reset / network reflash before committing to a board swap.
- Half the screen dark / vertical band. A failed LED strip on one side of the panel. Very common on the 5-series and older 6-series after 2–4 years.
- HDMI port not recognizing devices. A specific HDMI input fails while others work. Board-level repair on the input panel.
- Audio dropouts or static. Speaker driver or audio amp IC. We diagnose whether it’s the speakers themselves or the audio board.
- Picture has dark zones (blooming gone wrong). On mini-LED QM and Q-series, when local-dimming zones fail you see persistent dark spots. Usually a backlight driver IC.
- Random shutdowns / restart loops. Backlight protection circuit tripping or a failing main board. Both common; both repairable.
