LG issues we see most often in Chicago
Some failures are common across all TV brands; others are specific to LG. Here are the ones our techs handle weekly:
- Won’t turn on or red light blinking. Power board or capacitor failure. The EAY-series and LGP-series power supplies are common across the OLED and LED lineup — we’ve seen most of them, though specific variants may need to be ordered.
- OLED uniformity drift / vertical bands. After 3–5 years some OLED panels develop visible bands, brightness drift, or color non-uniformity. Often this is a T-Con board issue rather than the panel itself, so it’s repairable. We diagnose before quoting.
- Black screen with sound. Sound plays but the picture is black. On LG OLEDs this usually means T-Con failure; on LED LGs it’s typically a backlight LED strip. Both repairable in-home.
- webOS frozen or restart loop. Sometimes a main board issue, sometimes a corrupt firmware state. We can attempt the recovery / reflash before committing to a board swap.
- HDMI port not recognizing devices. A specific HDMI input fails while others work. Often a board-level repair on the input panel; we can sometimes fix just the port rather than swap the whole main board.
- IPS panel banding on LED LGs. The older IPS-panel LED LGs (UH-series, UK-series) develop visible vertical/horizontal bands. Usually a backlight LED strip or T-Con issue.
- Audio drops or distortion. Speaker driver or board-level audio issue. We diagnose whether it’s the panel speakers, the AV-pass-through, or the eARC chain.
- Sudden shutdown / restart loop. Backlight protection circuit tripping on LED models, or thermal cutoff on OLEDs. Both very common; both repairable.

About cracked LG screens
If the OLED panel is physically cracked or has impact damage, replacement is almost never economical — a new OLED panel costs more than buying a new LG of the same size. We’ll save you the service call and explain your options on the phone.
